Deck submitted by Jing Hong "Tomatonoob" Xu
Majordomo is not dead! Hi everyone this is Tomatonoob from GameForge, and the mage deck I'm showcasing is the new Majordomo Mage deck for standard format!
As some might have known, my previous majordomo mage deck made it to legend in the month
of June 2015, but since standard hits and few powerful cards in the deck are from GvG and Naxx (scientist, belcher etc.), the deck is no longer usable in standard.
So I have playtested and updated the list to fit the standard format how this deck works?
Basically just control and play like a control warrior with no weapon but better late game. There
are many draws so you probably won't run out of steam unless never lucky, and there are a lot of lifegain in the deck (2 block and the new 5 mana card and Alex, and majordomo is a life gain if used
correctly).
Once you survived the early game, you can dominate the mid game with the board clears and
powerful 6 drops, and no other deck can win you in late game because a rag hero power every turn istoo powerful, unless they run anti secret to kill you through the block (or they have 19+ damage burstto kill u through block when u have majordomo on board).
Your win condition, depending on matchups, is the rag hero and/or the golden monkey. Mulligan choice isquite straightforward for most matchups. Try to get the cards that cost 3 or less, but there are a fewcase that is different. Against priest: you can consider to keep spells like fireball or the secrets, sincepriest starts slow. Also even if it's dragon priest which is tempo, you can still use the fireball to cleartheir 5 or 6 hp minions.
Against warrior: don’t ever keep your acolyte. It will 100% get War Axed (they always get the axe at turn 1 trust me). It's alright to keep 1 Flamestrike if you start 2nd since you have 5 cards on turn 1 and it’s a safety measure against patrons against pally: consider keeping 1 Polymorphif your other cards is good enough to keep. This is because most paladin now is playing N'zoth deathrattle, and
Polymorph is very important soyou can keep 1 if you can afford to in case u don’t draw it on time.
Favored Matchups:
- All control decks (Control Warrior, N'zoth Paladin, Freeze Mage etc.), with the exception of Handlock,
Miracle rogue and Control Priest.
- Hyper aggressive decks that is not zoo style(eg. Face Hunter, Face Shaman, Face Warrior)
- Midrange Hunter
- All Warrior decks unless they play Eater of Secrets.
Unfavorable Matchups:
- Handlock- Jaraxxus will make you lose the game, unless you happen to still have 2 fireball and 1 bolt in
your hand, or your monkey gives you Nefarian which give you sacrificial pact. Their hero power makes you
hard to hit face for lethal, and they have a lot of removal for your threats.
Extremely Unfavorable Matchup:
- Control Priest - they will entomb your majordomo, which is the win condition in control matchups.
Against them try not to play the majordomo and try to get the monkey asap since that’s the card that can
win you against control priest
- Rogues: they have too many removals, and personally I think sap is the most irritating card in the game
next to entomb. Try to play aggressive in this matchup. If they play deathrattle rogue the game is over.
- Mill decks, since you die to fatigue through block
- Deathrattle decks, since your board clears doesn’t really clear. The only deathrattle deck you are favored
against is N'zoth pally since it doesn’t run many deathrattle cards and you can Polymorph the main ones.
Extra tips and info for the deck:
- Majordomo resets your hero power, so you can ping something, then transform and you can use hero
power again.
- If your Iceblock procs, and the opponent kills your majordomo while iceblock is in effect, you will lose
the immune because you are no longer the original hero. So they can kill you by procing Iceblock, killing
Majordomo, and dealing 8 to yourface
- Try to hit Alextraza with Thaurissan so that you can Alex + die insect with 10 mana
- Only play majordomo if you are close to 10 or lower life with an ice block in play, or against a priest when
you are sure he doesn’t have any entomb. Majordomo is a heal if you have super low health, so fireball +
ping it if really needed
Card replacements:
- Frostbolt, Acolyte, Ice Block, Barrier, Thaurissan, Flamestrike, Alextraza and Majordomo are not
replaceable since they are the core of the deck.
- The rest of the cards can be replaced with cards with a similar mana cost
and have similar functions, or just fits the curve.
